The Axminster method for creating carpets first came to the fore in 1775 when Thomas Witty introduced this high-end style. Prestigious properties, such as Chatsworth House and Brighton Pavilion, were amongst the first fitted with the original Axminster carpets. This is a style that was also chosen by King George III and Queen Charlotte, the latter of whom visited the factory in person.

It wasn’t until 1937 that a manufacturer named Harry Dutfield met a vicar on a train, who informed him that Axminster carpets had not been produced for some time due to the original factory being destroyed by a fire.

It was here that a decision to relaunch manufacture in Axminster was made.

This proved to be a renaissance for the brand. Axminster Carpets have since become one of the most desirable products in the flooring world and, as well as being a popular choice for the home, can be found in royal residences, in the carriages of trains, and even in the aircrafts of the world’s biggest airlines.

As part of the brand’s 250th birthday celebrations, Axminster Carpets created a commemorative rug which was paraded in the town, blessed by the Bishop of Exeter, and then presented as a gift to the incumbent Earl of Devon.

Even Clarence House, a residence of King Charles, has this brand in place.

At Beautiful Flooring, we are proud to be a nationwide supplier of Axminster Carpets and take immense pleasure in bringing some of the most exciting products from the modern flooring sector into the homes of an appreciative clientele, and into a thriving retailer sector that insists on Axminster’s quality.
